In 2012, Jill McDermott and I (Lynda Reese) designed and created a unique new “body wrap” to help our horses. Our prototypes were made from elastic used to create girdles and “shapewear”. Our goal was a wrap that was comfortable and supportive, calming, with deep touch pressure, gentle resistance to build muscle for strength, and a design that reconnects the whole body. We cut and pinned, and had them sewn locally. We were amazed by the results. So many “holy- sh*t- look- at- that” experiences! What had we created??
A little background:
Jill is a talented and proficient horse person; a trainer, rider, rescuer, rehabber, competitor. She’s certified in massage for horses, dogs, and people; a wife, mom, business manager/owner. She’s your go-to horse friend, always surrounded by animals. She has experience, skills, and her veterinarian’s friendship, respect, and cell number.
I have always loved horses. My mother’s family raised Morgan horses. Animals have always shared my life. I was a certified dog trainer, with 10 years of veterinary assistant experience, and an RN of 25 years of experience in cardiac, ortho, rehab, and geriatric long-term care.
Jill and I have been friends since 2009, from the time the first round of seized horses arrived at her farm. Jill’s horse farm included her horses, boarded horses, old horses, young horses; so many horses. Jill volunteered to assist the county with a local hoarding/neglect case. She took in and cared for 2 groups of horses, in 2 years. 33 unhandled horses in all. That’s a book in itself!
Jill named our new creation “ProSix” for proprioception (body awareness), which is often referred to as the “6th sense”. We learned about the ProSix by observing the effects it had on the horses who wore it. We saw immediate transformations that we explained as “the promise of things to come”. It would take time, we knew, to build the foundation necessary to maintain these transformations. But there it was, proof that the horse had the ability to move with better balance, alignment, and posture. We’ve spent 13 years researching the horse’s ability to recover and heal. We are beginning to understand the impact that ProSix has on the processes involved.
Our ProSix has saved lives. The rescue horses, the rehab horses, the weak, the injured, the fearful, the sick, the physically and emotionally damaged horses…they improved wearing ProSix. The cow with the prolapsed uterus who was down in the snow, the EPM horse that dropped his food and leaned on the wall to stand, the dog who “lost” his back end, the dog born without a cerebellum who could walk with her ProSix on…so many stories over the years from friends and customers. And Jill and I realized that this incredible gift, this blessing, came with a huge responsibility. We had to “get it out there”. Animals need ProSix.
We searched for similar products. No other design focused on connecting the whole animal. No other product used the comfortable non-latex, garment elastic we chose. No other product design gave the horse support without imposing restrictions. Some “rigs” restricted the head, neck, and range of motion. Others only focused on certain muscle groups creating more imbalance. Only ProSix supported the whole body-brain connection. We patented our ProSix in 2016.
ProSix isn’t a device, a simple training aid, a gadget or a gimmick to fix your training problems. Our goal was, and is, to help the horses.
We have learned quite a bit along the way. Reading and sharing ideas is a daily practice.
ProSix is an external stimulus that stimulates the nervous system by relaying a complete message to the brain. Is your horse stuck in compensation following an injury? Are there symptoms of neurological damage from the demyelination of neurons due to EPM? Brains can heal lost connections, restoring lost function. This is neuroplasticity, aka cortical plasticity: the brain can reallocate neural connections and new neural connections and pathways, allowing the body to heal and find balance again. Profound healing can occur when the body is supported and calmed, and systems are stimulated. We see it in other therapies involving temperature, light, magnets, electricity, water and more. ProSix supports the body’s signals and movement. Some of the best results we’ve seen involved only time and support in ProSix; without detailed protocols, specific exercises, or directing the horse’s movement. Muscles require innervation, and atrophy when there’s nerve damage. Strength returns when nerves are stimulated, inflammation is resolved, and circulation is improved with movement. ProSix provides the stimulus and support! ProSix trains the brain!
Other factors to healing include a good diet, nutritional support, medication as prescribed, a social support system of other horses and animals, time outside to forage and move, and good support from health care professionals to advise and monitor progress.
Why should you trust us and believe what we say about ProSix? We aren’t experts. We hope we’ve created interest and curiosity! Observe your horse, and share with those experts that you trust with your horse’s care: your trainer, your bodyworkers, your chiropractor, your veterinarian, your farrier, rehab therapist, and more. We want this to help your horse, and that’s why we offer our assistance 12 hours a day, every. single. day. We don’t offer medical advice; we offer advice based only on our experience and the experiences shared by our customers as guidance. If your horse care professional has questions, please have them call us.
We are grateful for your trust! We offer a “30-day no-risk, no-worry money back guarantee” to protect you, your curiosity, and your investment. If you share the four requested measurements with us, we will guarantee a size that fits, or we will exchange it free of charge within the first 30 days. We thoroughly clean and donate our few returns to rescues and nonprofits to help their horses.
Why do we do this? Somedays I wonder. We could both retire, I suppose, but instead we work many more hours a week than we used to in our “regular” old jobs. We are on a mission here!
